I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. —Psalm 108:3

I like to be among people, especially the people of the conference that I’ve been called and appointed to love and lead. Yet, as an introvert, I also like to spend time alone with the Lord to be recharged. I think we are each wired in different ways when it comes to how much being with people energizes or drains us. Yet, I’ve also found that when we’re together praising the Lord and singing about Him, it doesn’t matter if you’re an introvert or extrovert, there’s a tangible oneness that comes as we are all lifting holy hands and praying in Jesus’ name.

The psalmist makes the confident vow: “I WILL praise you, O Lord…I WILL sing of you.” This vow is not for worship that is first and foremost something that happens in the quiet of our living room or prayer closet. This type of worship – worship that binds the church together – happens in community. And in community, people are joined together in worship! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been blessed to worship at our Global Methodist Church Convening General Conference in Costa Rica, in GM Churches of the Northeast Conference, and with the Presiding Elders at a leadership training retreat in Dillsburg, PA. Soon, we will add Barcelona, Spain and Candor, NY to that list. WOW!

There’s a new trend happening post-COVID where churches are ending their livestream of worship, for the simple fact that faith communities need people present to thrive. I’m sure that will be a topic of more conversation in the months and years to come. Let me encourage each of us to put a new priority on being present in worship, as you are able. Being present in worship is important to the church and for you. This is not for any other reason than it encourages others to worship with you. God continues to call His people together. Worship is not optional or something to do when nothing else is happening. Worship is the way we – the church – come together to orient our lives to God. When we worship together with others, it inspires and encourages deeper discipleship, more mission, and increasing prayer. We learn, grow, and are sent out together. Worship is not an individual sport, but something done amongst the people and the nations! If you are looking for a community of faith, check out our https://northeastgmc.org/ website to find a gathering near you. If you are feeling called to plant a new faith community, we want to talk and connect you with our church planting team.

“I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.”
