“Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.”
Luke 24:27

Have you ever had a season where life just felt… BLAH?

You know Jesus is alive. You know the tomb is empty. You believe — but somehow, life feels gray, directionless, and heavy.

You’re not alone.

In Luke 24, two disciples walked the dusty road to Emmaus, confused and deeply discouraged after Jesus’ death. Even though the resurrection had already happened, they couldn’t recognize it. They had all the facts, but their hearts were numb and clouded by disappointment.

But Jesus — alive, powerful, and present — came alongside them. He didn’t scold them. Instead, He patiently walked with them, listening to their sorrows, opening the Scriptures, and reminding them that God’s plan had been unfolding all along. Their hearts, once heavy, began to burn again. And when they sat at the table and broke bread, their eyes were opened — and everything changed.

Sometimes, when life gets blah, it’s not because Jesus is absent. It’s because our vision has blurred. The pressures, distractions, and disappointments of life can cloud our spiritual sight. In those moments, the way back isn’t complicated or mysterious. It’s simple — but it requires humility: go back to the basics.

Back to Scripture.
Back to Prayer.
Back to Worship.
Back to Fellowship.
Back to Communion with Jesus.

The early church father Jerome once said, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”

When we drift from the Word and the simple rhythms of faith, it’s no wonder we lose sight of the living Jesus right beside us. The basics aren’t elementary — they are essential. They reignite the fire in our hearts and help us recognize His presence in the everyday moments of life.

Today, if your life feels gray, weary, or meaningless, you don’t need a new formula. You need an old path. Go back to the basics — and watch as your heart starts to burn again with the living hope of the risen Christ. Where do you need to “go back to the basics” today to recover the joy and perspective of the resurrection?

Prayer:
Jesus, when life feels gray and meaningless, remind me to run back to You — in Your Word, in prayer, in worship, and in fellowship. Walk with me…walk with us, open our eyes, and set our heart ablaze again with Your truth. Amen.

Blessings,
Steve
