“When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
Colossians 3:4

From the time we’re young and first grasp the concept of a calendar, we start looking forward to special days. As children, it’s birthdays and Christmas that capture our excitement. As we grow older and our schedules fill with work, family, and church commitments, we long for restful Saturdays, family gatherings, or adventures in new places. These moments on the calendar often help us push through challenging or uninspired days.

But as followers of Jesus, there’s one day that transcends all others—that day—the day Jesus returns. Scripture speaks often of that ultimate day, when Christ appears in glory, and all who belong to Him will be with Him forever. Unlike annual milestones that come and go, Jesus’ return is the final proclamation of God’s salvation plan—a victory secured for all eternity.

For those saved by grace through faith in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, our very life is bound up in Him. He is our Lord, our Savior, our everything. As Paul reminds us, “in Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). And when Jesus comes again, we will be with Him forever in the new heaven and earth.

While debates about tribulation timelines may continue (that’s a conversation for another day), one truth stands firm: Jesus is coming back, and we will be with Him in glory.

So, what does that mean for us today? It means we can live with confidence, knowing that the final act of God’s love is certain. It means we can face struggles, frustrations, and even our own failings with hope. When our calendars feel mundane or overwhelming, it’s a reminder to lift our eyes to Jesus. We wait expectantly, sharing the Good News that Jesus is the Risen One, that Scripture contains everything we need for salvation, and that we will one day worship Him in glory alongside all the saints and angels.

Take a look at your calendar right now. Thank God for every ordinary day, every special moment, and every opportunity yet to come. Commit each day to His mission, knowing that the best day is still ahead—the day you will stand with Jesus in glory. Amen!

As John Fletcher once wrote, “We must dwell in Christ as branches in the vine, deriving life and strength from Him and looking continually to His grace for support.” May this be your daily posture as you await His glorious return.
