And we, who with unveiled faces all [contemplate and] reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. —2 Corinthians 3:18
“She’s glowing!” We sometimes hear that when a bride walks down the aisle on her wedding day or at other times when a person is beaming with a smile from ear to ear. We notice when someone’s expression is more than a resting face. Our expressions tell a story of what’s happening in our lives, and can be an indication of what is inside that needs to come out. God created our faces to be a window to our souls and hearts.
When a person is filled with the Holy Spirit, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of the world, there’s an internal change that takes place. That change is in the heart. That change is in the mind. It’s a change of will and desires, as a person is being transformed into the image of Jesus. John Wesley called the process entire sanctification, leading to perfect love abounding in our lives. And when there’s a change on the inside, God loves it when that is expressed on our faces and in our lives as a physical change. The Apostle Paul called those ‘unveiled faces’, meaning that nothing was blocking or preventing our faces and bodies and lives from showing the glory (the character and power) of God from radiating out from lives that have been changed by Jesus’ salvation.
The season of Lent is a season of change, of transformation, if we allow the Holy Spirit to keep working in us to radiate the glory of God. We’ve all heard the song, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.” Well, as followers of Jesus, with joy and peace abounding in us because of Him, we are expected to be sources of the light of God’s glory shining through us to the world. Today, whenever you meet someone, smile and let the glory of God shine on your face, despite the circumstances you are facing. Be a glow that tells of the glory of God in your life. As Maxie Dunnam says, the Jesus in you wants to greet the Jesus in them, and bring you together in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen!
