I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.
For in him you have been enriched in every way — in all your speaking and in all your knowledge. ~1 Corinthians 1:4-5

I love Thanksgiving! It’s not just the food, which is always delicious and satisfying (except for that time I food poisoning from an undercooked turkey – but that’s a story for another day). It’s not the football or the parades. For me, it’s the time spent reflecting on all the ways that I’m thankful. And this can happen no matter who wins the game, shoots the biggest deer, makes the best sweet potato casserole, or bakes the most delicious pie.

I often think it helps us have hearts of gratitude when we have good reasons to give thanks to God. Now, I’m not sure that’s the most faith-filled response to the goodness of God and His provision in our lives; yet, as believers, our hearts are drawn to respond to the goodness of God in our lives. As followers of Jesus, I suspect it’s the realization that blessings come in all sizes that can turn our hearts to Him and we are filled with thanksgiving. Maybe as we get to a place where we’re on the lookout for small blessings every day and throughout the day, it’s then that we can be thankful in ALL things. Thanksgiving just helps us reorient our lives to it.

The Apostle Paul gave thanks for the believers in Corinth, even though they had struggles and weren’t always the most faithful church. Can we relate? For sure. But Paul gave thanks for the GRACE that they had received in Jesus Christ. It was in Christ that they had been enriched in every way. Paul knew the one thing they had, that was the most valuable gift, was God’s favor, which they didn’t deserve, because of Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension. Because they were assured of God’s grace, and spoke about that, then they had every reason to feel and respond to being blessed.

As you prepare for a day to give thanks next week, look for the littlest things that move your soul to respond to God in thanks-giving today and everyday. Those blessings are right there, and you’re invited to see them and give those a nod of acknowledgment constantly. Let God know that He is the center of your life. Let Him hear the list of things that make you thankful, even in the midst of change or sadness or uncertainty. Especially give Him thanks and praise for the grace He has given to you, and to those in your life, even the ones that don’t yet know it. Give thanks! In ALL things! In ALL ways! For God’s glory!
