“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain—to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
Revelation 5:12 (NRSV)
We begin this week with a powerful truth: Jesus Christ is Risen! Not just on Easter Sunday, but every day. As followers of the Risen Lord, we are Easter people. This identity reshapes every part of our lives—how we love, how we serve, and especially, how we worship.
Worship is more than a Sunday habit. It’s a passionate response to the living presence of Jesus Christ—alive in us and reigning forever. Revelation 5 paints a stunning picture: heaven roaring with praise, with myriads of angels and every living creature joining in a song to the Lamb. No one is silent. Nothing is left out. The Lamb—Jesus, crucified and risen—is declared worthy of all praise. This isn’t a quiet or casual moment; this is passionate worship.
John Wesley once wrote, “The end [of worship] is the honour of God, and the edification of the Church; and then God is honoured, when the Church is edified.” Worship honors God and builds up the people of God. It’s not a performance or passive ritual. It’s a full-body, whole-heart expression of love and reverence for the One who gave everything for us.
But how do we become people who worship like that?
It begins before Sunday. Passionate worship is fueled Monday through Saturday by time spent in prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and daily attentiveness to God’s goodness. When we come to worship filled with the Spirit, our voices join the song already echoing in heaven.
And yes—music matters. But it’s not about being pitch-perfect. Charles Wesley captured the heart of worship when he wrote:
“O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace!”
—Charles Wesley, 1739
That’s the goal—not just a song sung well, but a heart crying out in awe. Whether in traditional hymns, contemporary songs, liturgy, or silence—our aim is to give ourselves fully to the God who gave Himself for us.
Let’s be honest: this world is chaotic. Pain, fear, and division surround us. But worship reorients us. It reminds us who God is—and who we are because of Him. When we gather in worship, we form a holy “flash mob” of praise, aligning ourselves with the eternal worship happening in heaven right now.
So, lift your heart. Sing your soul. Pray with boldness. Listen with expectancy.
WE ARE! EASTER PEOPLE!
Let’s live like it by passionately worshiping the Triune God at all times, in all ways, for He alone is worthy.
Prayer:
Living Christ, risen Lamb of God, fill our hearts with passion for Your presence. Teach us to worship You in spirit and truth, joining with the angels and saints in heaven. Let every part of our lives overflow with praise to Your name. Amen.
Blessings,
Steve
