He [Jesus] is before all things, and in him all things hold together. — Colossians 1:17
Did you ever bake something and leave out one of the main ingredients? Turns out, most of the ingredients are important to the success of the finished product. Did you ever try to build something and think, “I can make that!” only to fail to plan and either have to run to the store a dozen times or find out that you, indeed, didn’t really know how to build that? Ya…me too. Having the right tools and materials is critical to building something.
In the Kingdom of God, the main ingredient, tool, and material is Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul says that He not only is, “…before all things and holds them together…” but is also, “…the image of the invisible God…” and “…all things have been created through him and for him…” Sounds to me like Jesus is pretty important. In fact, Paul confesses that without Jesus, there IS nothing.
How important is Jesus in your life? Is Jesus the main thing and always in the forefront of your mind and life, or is Jesus in the background unless you need him? I think we’d all admit that we have opportunities to have Jesus be more of the glue that holds our lives together, the baking powder (or is that soda?) that gives us passion for worship to rise, and the tool to give us confidence and hope in this life. Just one extra moment of prayer and worship can begin a new process of having Jesus always be the Lord and Savior He is.
